Overview

Join this special event version of our classic and favorite ride: the Mountain Cove Ramble. Enjoy one of our favorite rides followed by a silent auction, lunch with local farmers and other neighbors, and the chance to participate in a turkey shoot (targets--not live turkeys!). We will start and end at the Camp New Dawn, and we'll support community programs by donating $25 for each rider who joins us.

If you're a novice who has tired of the same old close-to-home routes but may not want to head out alone into new territory, this fully supported tour with support vehicle and ride-along guide is for you. Still not sure? We have e-bikes!

This loop ranks among the favorite routes for local cyclists--and for good reason:

It's remote with little traffic.

It's generally flat to lightly rolling with just two notable hills but nothing long or steep.

And the scenery will keep us stopping again and again for photos--of barns, farms, old churches and the ever-present Lookout Mountain on the ride south and Pigeon Mountain on the ride north.

Highlights

  • Rural, quiet back roads of Northwest Georgia
  • Scenic farmlands and mountain views
  • Deep sense of local history
  • Lunch at Camp New Dawn (not included in cost)
  • Turkey Shoot (not included in cost)

Difficulty

Recreational
Level 2 of 4

Generally flat to lightly rolling with just two notable hills but nothing long or steep.

Itinerary

We'll cover 22 miles on a total of three roads! We'll meet at Camp New Dawn before the festivities begin there and head a short distance south on West Cove Road until we reach the wonderfully named Hog Jowl Road and ride through a canopy of century-old trees to the Cove Store, a country store at the southern end of the so-called "cove," where Pigeon and Lookout Mountains intersect. We'll then backtrack a mile on Hog Jowl, continue north along rolling countryside, cross over a gradual crest, and return south to our cars, lunch, a silent auction, and turkey shoot at Camp New Dawn. Those who'd like can continue a half-mile to the family-owned century-old farm at the base of Lookout Mountain. There, you can enter a corral and hang out with a small herd of very affectionate goats.
